Anchuruli Tunnel |
Anchuruli is an emerging tourist destination in Idukki district. The main attraction in this area is the long 4km long massive circular tunnel, that carries water from Erattayar dam to Idukki dam reservoir.
Anchuruli is located at an elevation of 755m(2477ft) above mean sea level. The area is less developed and one can stand in the water flowing out from the tunnel. The place is risky as there are no safety measures and reported cases of fatal accidents and drowning at the reservoir.
The place got its name Anchuruli which translates to 'five vessels', associated with the five small hills which are in the shape of inverted vessels and are visible when the water level in Idukki reservoir comes down.
The local Village administration is planning several strategies for the development of the area, which also includes boat service to nearby place Cheruthoni which will reduce considerable traveling time for local/frequent travellers.
