Parunthumpara is a hill station of Idukki district where numerous high hills can be seen. Paruthumpara provides a bird's eye view of an infinite stretch of green forest land and low-lying areas. One of the hills is known as Tagore rock since it has a rock which resembles shape of Rabindra nath Tagore, an Indian poet who composed the National anthem of India. Parunthumpara is located 25 kilometres from Thekkady which is the nearby popular tourist destination and 3 km from National highway NH220 (Kottayam-Kumily road).
It is ideal to visit the place by evening. Mist and even slight snow fall is reported at Parumpara by the dusk. There are numerous hills of which some are inaccessible. On a few hills there are plateau like area where one can take their vehicle (preferably a motorcycle or SUVs). Various tourist amenities are being developed by the local administration.
