Ramakkalmedu is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Idukki. As we know Idukki is famous for hill stations, Ramakkalmedu is the paradise among them. There are numerous hills around, adventures seekers might want to climb them all but might get exhausted soon since the terrain is too steep. There are no safety measures which aid climbing the hill. While climbing the hills one has to be alert as there are open cliffs which are too deep with no safety measures, signs or warnings. It is recommended to carry drinking water since climbing this steep terrains can by very exhaustive.


Ramakkalmedu is located at an altitude of 1100m (3500ft) above mean sea level which makes the view from Ramakkalmedu spectacular.




An important reason to visit Ramakkalmedu is the ariel view of TamilNadu. The farms and gricultural lands of Tamilnadu are seen as tiny square patches which is a great sight! The farmlands of TamilNadu includes paddy fields, vineyards of Cumbbam etc.






Yet another reasons to visit Ramakkalmedu is that the place is popular for wind farms. One can see many wind mills in action. Wind blows at 35km/hour. Ramakkalmedu is the second place in Kerala where wind farm is installed. Its current developed capacity is about 14.25MW which is only 2% of Idukki dams total generation capacity.
